Journal Writing:  Finding Wisdom through Words

Hirsch Wellness Classroom-Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Second Flr.

Second Thursday of each month - 6:30pm-8:30pm

February 9th, March 8th, April 12th, May 10th, June 14th

Join local artist and writer Tracy Hart for an evening of creativity and writing.  Explore journal writing and art journal techniques, learn ways to incorporate mindful awareness and have fun playing with words.  This monthly class is structured but informal allowing for periods of self-reflection and opportunities to share and learn from others insights, experiences and perspectives. The class is for those beginning their journaling practice as well as for individuals wanting to take their writing deeper.  Writing and art materials provided, but feel free to bring your personal journal and a favorite pen.



Tibetan Singing Bowl Session for Wellness with Laura Church

Cultures around the world have long used the sounds from bells and bowls to aid in healing, mindfulness and meditation. Join us for this evening of calming sound therapy and receive a gentle massage induced by the vibrations created as Laura plays differently pitched Tibetan Bowls. Each participant will have access to blankets and bolsters to create a relaxing posture for the session.  Please bring personal items if desired. Class space is limited, please register in advance to receive more information and to secure your space.

Laura Church is a licensed massage and body therapist who holds a Biology Degree from the University of Tennessee. She works extensively with sound therapies and recognizes how the mind, body and spirit are all interconnected in the healing journey.

Join us as we read the Reynolds Price book A Whole New Life and explore his biographic telling of a journey from illness to healing. Whitney Vanderwert will guide us through this amazing story with discussion and writing. Books have been provided by the Cone Health Foundation.

As part of his healing journey, Reynolds Price began to draw and found tremendous benefit from this
meditative practice. Join local artist Jack Stratton for this four-part drawing class where we will take pencil to paper and explore the creative side of ourselves. No experience is necessary and all materials will be provided by Hirsch Wellness Network. Class size is limited - Participants should plan on attending all four sessions.

Celebrate the life and work of one of the South’s greatest writers in this once-in-a-lifetime theatrical event. Return to a small town in eastern North Carolina and meet the Avery family. Directed by Preston Lane in honor of Reynolds Price, Triad Stage presents the entire New Music trilogy in a special two-part extended run Part I: August Snow and Night Dance and Part II: Better Days. This performance is presented in collaboration with the Greensboro Public Library.

Portraits in Clay with Leanne Pizio

Hirsch Wellness Network Classroom - Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Second Floor

Tuesday March 13th and 20th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm

A two-session workshop.  Participants should plan on attending both sessions.

Join fine artist Leanne Pizio for this two session workshop as we work with clay tablets to carve and paint images of ourselves. There is no experience necessary to take part in this playful and meditative class.  All materials are included.  Registration is Required.

Leanne Pizio is a painter and potter whose works are rooted in storytelling.  Her ceramic pieces are carved with amazing detail and painted to create ornate patterns - each evoking her individual character and style.

Leanne has a BA from The University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and her MFA from The University of North Carolina Greensboro.

 

APRIL

A Poem in your Pocket:  Poetry with Jacinta White

Thursday April 26th 6:30pm - 8:30pm

Join us for this Third Annual Poetry workshop!  Always an inspiring and amazing group experience.  Jacinta takes us on a casual walk to discover poems; how they make us feel and what they say to and about us.

All materials are included - Participants are welcome to bring their own personal journals for the class.

Jacinta is a published poet and the winner of the Press 53 2008 Poetry Award. She is the founder of The Word Project and has been facilitating poetry writing workshops for nearly 10 years. She carries with her the belief that everyone--once comfortable enough to listen and follow their own rhythm--is a poet; and that
everyone has a story deserving of being told and heard.
No previous poetry writing experience necessary.  Registration is Required.

Photography Workshop with Kathy Dollyhigh

Hirsch Wellness Network Classroom - Presbyterian Church of the Covenant, Second Floor

Class Dates:  Tuesday Evenings from 6:30-8:30pm   May 1st, 8th, 15th and 22nd

Join us for this four-part session and enjoy learning how to take pictures and explore the art of telling our stories from behind the lens.  Each session will include technical support as well as artful tips on composition and lighting.  Participants should plan on attending all four sessions.

Kathy Dollyhigh is a professional photography in Greensboro and specializes in portrait and documentary style photography.
