Artist in Residence Program
The Artist in Residence badge certification is a training program collaboratively designed by Hirsch Wellness, the Alight Program at Cone Health, and UNCG Department of Social Work. The certification will provide artists with the tools, credentials, and support needed to work with cancer patients/survivors and their caregivers within the clinical setting of a Cancer Center infusion room or lobby/waiting room. The badge program will provide a combination of training geared toward communication and resiliency skills development, Cancer Center protocol and culture, and access to related resources.
AIR participants will:
• Participate in experiential opportunities of the creative arts for patients and participants;
• Develop communication skills appropriate for people with serious and potentially terminal illnesses;
• Learn about and practice ‘focused listening’ to enhancing the arts-based and therapeutic activities;
• Familiarize themselves with how to appropriately respond to questions posed by patients and participants;
• Explore how to facilitate healing conversations in group settings;
• Create an array of tools for self-care.
The program consists of 20 hours of content spread over several weeks. Participants must attend all sessions to be awarded the badge and to be considered a certified AIR. Our next certification dates and times to be announced.
