HIRSCH Reads Bootlegger’s Daughter by Margaret Maron

Bootlegger’s Daughter is a murder mystery set in Eastern NC.  It is the first book in a series focusing on the character Deborah Knott, a lawyer, in “old boy-ruled ” Colleton County.  Deborah decides to run for district judge. While campaigning, she also takes on the case of an unsolved murder for a young friend.

Author, Margaret Maron, was born in Greensboro, NC and attended UNC-G.  She was a longstanding  member of Mystery Writers of America and  Sisters in Crime. She died in Feb. 2021.  Margaret Maron Obituary (1938 – 2021) – Raleigh, NC – The News & Observer (legacy.com)

Bootlegger’s Daughter was very well received, and won the 1992 Agatha and the Anthony, Edgar and Macavity awards for “Best Novel” the following year.  Books by Margaret Maron (Author of Bootlegger’s Daughter) (goodreads.com)

Copies (from the Greensboro Public Library collection) will be available for check out at the Hirsch office after June 8th.  Books are now available.
